It was a lovely December day with perfect sunshine for Mark & Claire’s wedding. Tewin Bury Farm Hotel is a great wedding venue and I enjoy shooting there. The staff are experts in wedding organisation and they always help the day run smoothly. The wedding ceremony & breakfast was held in the Stable, which is a lovely 17th century red brick building with oak beams and a cosy feel. Claire looked radiant on her wedding day and the day went beautifully.

Hanbury Manor is a lovely venue in Ware, Hertfordshire and it wasn’t long ago I was there shooting pre-wedding engagement portraits with Nick & Paula. They were married in the lovely summer house and it was such a treat to photograph their wedding in such a beautiful setting. Despite their best efforts I hate to say that Nick & Paula don’t have a future playing the steel drum music so the musician’s job’s are still safe. Paula walked down the aisle to the lovely harp playing of Ruth Holden and it gave the wedding the perfect ambience. The talented Mitch Hiller along with his soul/jazz band provided the music for the first dance and reception bringing the day to a soulful conclusion. It was hard to choose between them but here are a few of my favourite images from the wedding day.

July 7, 2009 by adminHow to look good in wedding photographs
I just came across this guide on wikihow on how to be photogenic. A bit cheesy in parts but most of it does make sense. Most people think that being photogenic is a mysterious charisma that you are just born with. Unless you are very unlucky, everyone, at least once, does look good in a photograph! I think the problem most have is that from an early age you are told to say ‘cheese’ for the camera which ruins the relationship you have with photographs. Why are we encouraged to pull an unnatural face? Looking natural is the key and feeling relaxed in front of the camera comes from viewing the camera as a friend not as something we have to put a fake face on for.
A couple of points which I thought were good:
- Fake it till you make it. People are often photogenic because they like having their picture taken. They are therefore relaxed and happy when the camera appears. If you cannot muster up genuine love of the camera, pretend you like the camera. Imagine the camera is someone you love, a long lost friend, an old flame, your child at age three, or whatever you need to look at the camera lovingly. Try it—it really does work.
- Maintain your posture. Listen to your mother — remember how she always told you not to slouch? Good posture can dramatically improve your appearance in pictures. Sitting or standing up straight will make you look healthier and more alert and, if in a group setting, more attractive than your slouching companions. Just remember to breathe normally and relax your shoulders. Especially if you usually have bad posture, it may be difficult to stand up straight and not look stiff, so practice this in the mirror.
Theres plenty more advice so have a read..

July 7, 2009 by adminPre wedding photoshoot – Hanbury Manor, Hertfordshire
I was at the lovely Hanbury manor in Ware, Hertfordshire the other week doing a little pre wedding photoshoot with Nick & Paula. They are a lovely couple and I’m really looking forward to shooting their wedding in August, which isn’t far away now. Time does fly!
Pre wedding photoshoot’s can be a bit strange for couples I think as most people aren’t used to having their picture taken. It’s different from shooting a wedding as most of the time the bride & groom are mostly preoccupied with the day and that enables me to capture lovely reportage images that I love shooting. Nick & Paula were very relaxed though, even though it was one of those very hot days that us brit’s aren’t used to! (As i write this it’s raining outside with a nice bit of thunder & lightening! back to the normal british summer..) Pre wedding or engagement photoshoots are one of the things I always offer, although not every couple takes me up on it, but it’s a good opportunity to spend some time with the couple and go over the arrangements and also get a feel for what they are like in front of the camera.
Hanbury Manor in Ware is a lovely venue and it is where Nick & Paula are getting married and having their reception. I believe it’s called the summer house the part where they are having the wedding and it has a fantastic walled garden which is perfect for a wedding reception.
Here are a couple of images from the shoot:
